This kit list is to act as a starting point.
For trips abroad it is expected that athletes will travel in their walking boots, SOWM tracksuits and their ski jacket (indicated below by a ⭐).
Note
If your athlete is attending Pila unaccompanied, make sure that there is sufficient room remaining in the suitcase so clothing/belongings can be repacked once your athlete has worn the items.
Mandatory Items
- Passport (FCDO Italy advice)
- GHIC card; never pay for a GHIC card - they are free
- Sun cream (Soltan Kids 50ml SPF50 is great for all ages)
- Lipsalve (like Nivea Sun Protect SPF50)
- Walking boots (⭐)
- A suitable travel adapter for the destination country
- Pila uses ‘Type C’ plugs
- Plastic bag for dirty clothes
- Travel money
Skiing Specific
- Helmet
- Ski gloves or mittens
- 2–3 pairs of ski socks
- Ski trousers/salopettes
- Ski jacket (⭐)
- Ski goggles
- SOWM tracksuit (⭐)
- Crocs/sliders (or similar)
- Base layer - 2-3 merino/thermal tops
- Mid layer - 2-3 micro fleeces
General
- Underwear
- Socks
- Shirts
- Nightwear
- Toiletries
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste - make sure to pack this in a zip lock bag!
- Deodorant
- Shampoo - make sure to pack this in a zip lock bag!
- Shower gel - make sure to pack this in a zip lock bag!
- Leisurewear for the evenings
- Trainers or similar for evenings
- Prescription medication if required - pack in hand luggage!
- Over the counter medication if required - pack in hand luggage or checked in luggage depending on necessity.
- Device chargers as necessary, for example:
- Phone charger
- Toothbrush charger
- Spare hearing aid batteries (if required)
Suggested
The following are suggested items.
- Woolly hat
- Headphones
- Alarm clock
- You can use a phone or a watch for this
- Tissues/hand wipes
- Hand sanitizer (like Carex Hand Sanitizer Gel)
- FFP2 facemasks
- Robinson’s Squash’d (or similar)
- Hand warmers
- Sunglasses
- Hairbrush
- If you’re prone to the cold, you may benefit from long-johns
- If you’re prone to travel sickness, consider purchasing sick bags

Remember that any equipment brought on the trip is the responsibility of the individual bringing it - SOWM is not responsible for lost or damaged devices. We recommend ensuring your equipment is covered on either your travel or home insurance.
Everyone skiing with SOWM must wear a helmet; it is now also the law in Italy to wear a helmet whilst skiing.
