As a group our primary method for disseminating information is on WhatsApp. We use a WhatsApp community for our group.

The community contains a few groups;

Group Purpose
SOWM On-Topic For things directly related to the running of the group, i.e. information on training sessions and events
SOWM Social Chat For ‘any other business’

You do not have to be in the social chat if you do not want to be.

For the Pila trip we will create a group for the parents/guardians of those attending; important information will be shared in the chat ahead of the trip (like timings). During the week the group chat becomes more light hearted with things like photos being shared.

Rules

✅ Always message respectfully

✅ Our chats are only for active members of SOWM Ski Group; we will remove members from the community if their athlete leaves our group

❌ Do not share photos available to you within the chats outside of SOWM Ski Group without the permission of every person in the photo

I don’t have WhatsApp

If you don’t have WhatsApp we ask that you consider downloading it (it’s free) as it is our primary method of communication. Any method other than this adds additional burden to our volunteers.

Tips

Reacting with an emoji

If you’d like to react to a message, like acknowledging it with a thumbs up (👍), press and hold the message you wish to reply to - a menu and list of emojis will pop up - then click the emoji you wish to use.

Avoid simply sending a message that contains ‘👍’ as this will send a notification to everyone in the chat whereas reacting with an emoji will only send a notification to the individual that sent the message.

WhatApp’s website contains information for Android and iPhone users.

Mute a chat

If you’d like to mute a chat there are guides on the WhatsApp website for Android and iPhone users.

Note

Please do not mute the ‘On-Topic’ chat as you may miss important updates; we intentionally try to keep the messages in the On-Topic chat to a minimum with friendly discussion being reserved for the Social Chat.
